We will read "The Places in Between" by Rory Stewart, an account of the author's solo walk across Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan in 2000-2002. We should each read one one other book of our own choosing about Afghanistan, which is once again the focus of America's military confrontation of militant Islam. Please feel free to offer your suggestions to the group.

By way of background, Rory Stewart, MA, OBE is a Scottish author, former officer in the Black Watch and diplomat.
